A Married Couple Becomes Distraught About Their Hazardous And Irresponsible Drinking And Contemplates Whether They Display Any Signs Of Alcohol Addiction
Lenny and Angie have been married for three years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they decided to have some kids and so they intentionally established an incredibly vibrant social life.
The central issue, however, is that very nearly everything they do to have fun somehow includes drinking. For example, all of the parties with friends, sporting events, dinner engagements, happy hours, and family get-togethers they frequent have something to do with drinking.
If they were sporadic drinkers this wouldn't be a major issue. Since they drink rather excessively, nonetheless, they are beginning to see some clear-cut alcohol-related issues in their lives.
For example, just four weeks ago Lenny was placed under arrest for his first DWI and has been showing up late for work because of alcohol-related health problems. Furthermore, Lenny's last two performance evaluations at the office have been less than acceptable and he has begun to forget what he says or does the times that he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family has begun to get nervous about his drinking situation.
Similar to Lenny's circumstances, Angie has been feeling dejected about life in general and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more regularly than any time in the past four years. In addition, Angie has been experiencing quite a few throbbing headaches and going through very bad hangovers after drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling considerably less active when she awakens, she has been getting to work late at least every other day, and she has been receiving some negative criticism from her relatives, family members, friends, and coworkers about her unhealthy and abusive drinking.
One Monday evening while watching the television, Lenny and Angie accidentally discovered a remarkable program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This television special was a real jolt to Angie and Lenny because some of the alcohol facts that were featured looked as if they were indisputably correlated with some of the drinking problems Lenny and Angie had been suffering through.
With thoughts of the television program still imprinted in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been manifesting could be an indication that they are dependent on alcohol or conceivably becoming alcohol dependent. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the physicians at the local drug and alcohol abuse rehab facility to find out more about the severity of their drinking issues.
Strangely enough, although their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was noticeable that Angie and Lenny were at the very least dealing with their drinking issues, they were ready to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were interested in discovering how they could appreciably reduce or do away with the alcohol-related difficulties that had started to intensify.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they made up their minds that the next morning, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse rehab clinic located downtown just outside of the business district. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to conquer the alcohol-related issues that had materialized in their lives, they actually had the most peaceful night's sleep they could think of in the last nine months.
