A Wednesday Evening Out With School Buddies At A Local Tavern Leads To Drinking Issues And Alcohol Overdose Symptoms

When Lois was in high school, she had acquired a reputation as a studious individual who rarely, if ever, partied with her pals. She seemed driven to excel academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only liked but one that also gave her some monetary stability.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a well known program in philosophy. Her reasoning for this decision was that this subject would be a good foundation for law school and would not be indistinguishable from the bulk of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.

Lois was the kind of individual who worked diligently to finish what she started and then would take a break when she could. As is the case, however, the vast majority of the things she did between school sessions or during her summer vacations did not have anything to do with drinking. Needless to say, Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were done and feeling proud of the fact that she had done extremely well on her exams, however, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides going to college for a change.

So Lois and some of her friends went to a local bar and grill where they had a few shots. As the evening advanced, Lois and her pals continued to drink. In fact, she was having such a great time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking about seventy-five minutes when Lois started to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then become unconscious, in spite of this, her buddies promptly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call the emergency number and ask for medical assistance because they believed that Lois was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she came an inch from losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her Mom and Dad knew how relentlessly she worked at the university and how little she let herself have any fun. Nevertheless, they also knew that Lois needed to stay away from abusive and unhealthy drinking.

As a result, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking opportunity arises, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was fine with this and swore to her parents and to her friends that she would never ever drink in an abusive and irresponsible manner. In her own words, "I never had a clue that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local town newspaper. I now realize that careless drinking is not for me. I guarantee that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also had. In other words, she immediately knew that she had made an error in judgment and decided that she would never make the same error again. In fact, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this type of irresponsible drinking can end in a fatality.
